Verenium to open cellulosic ethanol facility in Louisiana

Verenium is set to open the first demonstration-scale cellulosic ethanol plant in the U.S. on Thursday, and it is expected to manufacture 1.4 million gallons annually. The Cambridge, Mass.-based firm will combine acid pretreatments, enzymes and two kinds of bacteria to make the biofuel from bagasse -- a plant matter that remains after sugar cane is processed into sugar.
