Union head pushes for teacher pay raises in Malta

The head of Malta's teachers union says he is disappointed that government officials want to wait six months before discussing teacher pay raises and has directed the country's teachers to do no more than the minimum until the issue is resolved. "Given the prevailling economic situation, both in Malta and throughout the world, the government feels it would not be wise to make such decisions [about allowances] without carrying out a study," said a spokesman for the Education Ministry.
