Centerbridge's nearly $4 billion bid wins in Extended Stay auction

An investment group led by Centerbridge Partners won its bid to take Extended Stay out of bankruptcy. The nearly $4 billion offer topped an offer from a rival group led by Starwood Capital by $20 million, according to a source. The cash bid will pay back most of Extended Stay's $4.1 billion senior mortgage but not its mezzanine debt.
