Consumer advocate argues against proposed United-Continental merger:

William McGee, a consultant with the Consumer's Union, told a Senate committee that merging United Airlines with Continental Airlines would create a massive carrier that would be too big to fail. "Just as we have seen with the banks, with financial-services companies and with automobile manufacturers, we are now seeing the domestic airline industry evolving into an oligopoly of 800-pound gorillas," McGee said.
