Nowhere to go but up in China

Architect David Malott predicts "supertall" skyscrapers will become standard in China, although they likely won't get to the kilometer-tall range. During a speech in Shanghai, Malott said the country's "density demands that you go up no matter what." Malott is a director at Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, which designed the 1,614-foot tall Shanghai World Financial Center.
