Congress must reduce prices Medicare pays for drugs

Congress can start containing the government's spending on health care by stopping drugmakers from setting prices of treatments, a move that will keep health care affordable and restrain long-term Medicare spending, Diane Archer of the Health Care for All Project writes. Allowing the federal government to negotiate drug prices would mean hundreds of billions of dollars in savings and put the U.S. in line with prices paid by other wealthy nations, Archer writes.
