To create a beautiful, drought-tolerant landscape, red maple trees, along with boxwood and viburnum shrubs, are good choices in Michigan, according to Randy Milne of English Countryside Landscaping in Shelby Township. Mulch and decorative stones add color on the ground, while pondless water features require less maintenance than traditional water features, Milne notes.
