A new framework for thinking about retirement income

The Investment Company Institute has suggested thinking about retirement income in terms of a multilayered pyramid and nixing the old three-legged stool analogy. The levels include Social Security, homeownership, employer-sponsored retirement plans, individual retirement accounts and other assets. Part-time employment could be another source, writes Mary Beth Franklin.
