OCC expands inquiry into debt collection by banks, sources say

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency is widening its investigation into whether U.S. banks relied on faulty documents and incomplete records for credit card debt-collection practices, sources say. The inquiry reportedly began in 2011, with regulators looking at the process that big banks use to verify the outstanding debt of consumers before taking action against them.
