Alabama metro areas hit hard by unemployment

The majority of U.S. metropolitan areas with increased unemployment rates over the past year are in Alabama, which is attributed in part to a drop in government positions. In addition, many of the jobs being created "require specific engineering or production skills and some employers report difficulty finding skilled workers in the state," says Carolyn Trent, a socioeconomic analyst at the University of Alabama.
