Boston officials: Rumors are untrue about history, social studies department

Officials in Boston Public Schools are dismissing rumors believed to have originated on social media that the school system is planning to eliminate the history and social studies department. Plans are underway to reorganize its academic departments to make them more interdisciplinary and to fall under a humanities umbrella, said Eileen de los Reyes, deputy superintendent of academics. John McDonough, the district's interim superintendent, said, "The history and social studies department is not being eliminated or folded into English language arts."
