Highs and lows of travel taxes

Taxes aimed at travelers can vary widely based on the locale, according to the Global Business Travel Association. A visitor to Chicago can pay $41.04 a day in taxes associated with car rentals, restaurants and hotel stays. New York City's tax tab is $38.65 a day, and Minneapolis' is $36.70 per day. Three cities in Florida occupy the lower end of the scale: Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Fort Myers tax visitors an average of $22.61 per day.
