Why manufacturers need to stretch beyond their ERP systems

Many manufacturing companies rely too heavily on enterprise resource planning (ERP) software to improve productivity, writes Jeffrey Vail, chief marketing officer of Quintiq. More flexibility is crucial, he writes, pointing to, among other factors, MAPI figures that show manufacturing regulatory costs have increased an average of about 8% per year since 1998. "Businesses have become accustomed to a certain amount of inefficiency, but even a few percentage points of waste carry a price tag that few can afford," he writes.
