Los Angeles schools ask court to stop teacher protest

The Los Angeles teachers union plans to picket for an hour next Wednesday morning, sacrificing one hour of pay to protest proposed cuts to the state's education funding levels. But the school district is asking a court to stop the demonstration, saying it is illegal and may endanger students. "We clearly support the message, but we can't support the action," said superintendent David L. Brewer. "The safety of the students comes first."
