Experts recommend stricter weight requirements for pregnant women

The Institute of Medicine and National Research Council lowered the recommended pregnancy weight gain for overweight women to 11 to 20 pounds from the long-standing 25-pound limit. The report said 27% of women of childbearing age are obese. The changes reflect evidence that shows overweight and obese women and those who gain excessive weight during pregnancy are at higher risk for complications.
