Study links behavior problems to premature birth

French researchers said behavior problems in 5-year-olds born between 22 and 32 weeks' gestation are strongly related to cognitive impairment. The study also showed these children had a higher risk of behavioral difficulties even after adjusting for cognitive performance, compared with children born at term. Hyperactivity or inattention, emotional symptoms, and peer problems were most commonly reported.
