Ariz. district raises the bar for promotion

The Governing Board of Arizona's Tucson Unified School District has approved a policy that, as of this fall, sets specific benchmarks students must achieve to advance to the next grade. While high-school requirements are unchanged, elementary students are required to meet standards in English and math, and middle-school students must pass English, math, science or social studies and one other course to advance.
