Critics question proposed change to fair-trade labeling

Fair World Project is criticizing a plan by Fair Trade USA to allow fair-trade certification of products even if not all ingredients are from fair-trade sources. Sophi Tranchell, managing director of Divine Chocolate, said the proposal "would be surprising to consumers and damages the integrity of the fair-trade system." Jenna Larson of Fair Trade USA pointed out that requiring all ingredients to be Fair Trade puts some companies in a situation where they just don't pursue Fair Trade at all.
