Exec: Selling out-of-state wind power to Calif. has challenges

Wind-power developers are hoping California authorities will be persuaded to buy wind power from Wyoming to help the Golden State meet its renewable portfolio standard. Robert Weisenmiller, chairman of the California Energy Commission, however, says it's unlikely California would need to buy wind power from Wyoming in the near term. California's preference for in-state renewable-energy generators, the lengthy permitting process for wind projects and swings in the electricity market make it a challenge for Wyoming to sell its wind power to California, observers said.
