Portman tries to foster a compromise to confirm Cordray

Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, has met with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Richard Cordray in recent weeks in an effort to create a path for Cordray to be confirmed by the Senate and to avoid threatened filibuster rule changes. Portman is also encouraging Democrats and Republicans to find common ground with changes to the agency such as creating a CFPB inspector general.
