Researchers investigate environmental messaging in Mont.

A team of three French researchers -- one a geographer, one a professor of American literature and the other an expert in cognitive linguistics -- came to Montana to research the nature of environmental messaging on topics such as hydraulic fracturing and the treatment of wolf populations. "They were very interested in our community outreach stuff," explained Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks bear manager Jamie Jonkel. "... They were very interested in dealing with the fear factor of grizzly bears."
