Studies hint at stronger global tourism business this summer

A number of studies paint an optimistic outlook for the summer travel season, as more consumers plan to relieve their pent-up desires for travel. Travel agencies also are reporting a rise in bookings to Europe despite the persistently high airfares. The latest Summer Hot Spots survey from ASTA (the American Society of Travel Agents) found Italy leading the list of top global travel destinations. Within the U.S., Orlando, Fla.; Las Vegas and San Francisco were the most popular travel hot spots. "Some things never go out of style. A family-friendly destination such as Orlando, and a destination like Las Vegas, with thrills and excitement, are perennial favorites among Americans," ASTA President and CEO Zane Kerby said.
