Study: Pediatric GERD surgery is effective, but benefits wane over time

A treatment for severe gastroesophageal reflux disease known as laparoscopic Thal fundoplication is effective in children, but symptoms returned in more than 40% of patients over 10 to 15 years, Dutch researchers report. Dr. Femke Mauritz of the University Medical Center Utrecht said the study showed the importance of follow-up care for pediatric patients over the longer term.
