Discovery Communications is starting the U.S. upfront with "strong characteristics," although the company isn't making growth predictions, David Zaslav, its president and CEO, said at an investors conference. Discovery's scatter CPM rates in Q1 rose by more than 10% and will increase in "high single or better" in Q2, Zaslav said. In related news, OWN, which Discovery operates with Oprah Winfrey's Harpo, is set to break even in the second half of this year and then begin turning a profit, according to Zaslav.
