FDA chief defends cooperation with industry

FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach defended his agency's cooperation with companies as important for the development and safety of new products. "The point is that we need to look at the role of the F.D.A. in being a bridge to the future, not a barrier to the future," he said. The House has called for investigations into the agency's handling of safety issues, and a hearing is planned for June 6.
