AAP: Energy, sports drinks are unnecessary for youths

The AAP, in a report released Monday, said energy and sports drinks are unnecessary for children and teens and called for the elimination of the drinks for the age group. According to the report, caffeine and herbal stimulants in energy drinks may have greater effect or pose dangers to youths, and sports drinks have too much sugar. The report was published in Pediatrics.
