Lipid genes determine diabetes, heart disease onset, experts say

Lipid genes may predict the onset of diabetes, atherosclerosis and heart disease in high-risk patients, experts reported at the European Society of Human Genetics meeting in Amsterdam. Researchers found that the lipid component dihydroceramide could be a marker for diabetes, while another study noted that lipid genes helped determine carotid plaque, arterial wall thickness and coronary heart disease among the participants.
