AAR: Railroads take proactive steps to strengthen safety

The railroad industry continues to adopt precautionary steps to improve safety performance, according to the Association of American Railroads. "We're trying to be proactive rather than reactive," said Bob VanderClute, AAR vice president of safety. Railroads also invest constantly in infrastructure, technology and employee training for safety development, with an estimated $25.5 billion to be spent this year.
