Burden on the Fed is too high, Volcker says

Former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker says that if the Fed is given too heavy a burden, it will ultimately lead to failure. "Asked to do too much, for instance to accommodate misguided fiscal policies, to deal with structural imbalances, to square continuously the hypothetical circles of stability, growth and full employment, then it will inevitably fall short," he said. Volcker also expressed skepticism at the feasibility of a dual mandate and the effectiveness of the most recent round of quantitative easing.
