Good academic leaders will take chances but will always keep their colleagues informed on decisions and policies, asserts Chris Maples, president or Oregon Institute of Technology. Good leaders also will lead by example and not expect achievements or behaviors from others that they don't expect from themselves, Maples writes in this blog post. "Leading by example is especially critical in public higher education where there are more eyes on the leader than most people have encountered in previous positions," he writes.
