Statins dominate cholesterol drug market

Statins have become the most-prescribed drugs for lowering cholesterol and preventing heart attack as lower-cost generics have become available and long-term clinical trials have not shown other therapies to be effective. "When it comes to lowering cholesterol, doctors use statins, mostly available as cheap generics, and nothing else," Matthew Herper writes.
