Educators across the country report that students' reading-comprehension scores are rising at a slower pace than math scores. At issue could be the more complicated nature of reading difficulties. "Is it a vocabulary issue? A background knowledge issue? A sentence length issue? How dense is the text?" asked Brett Peiser, CEO of Uncommon Schools network of charter schools. "It's a three-dimensional problem that you have to attack. And it just takes time."
