U.S. new jobless claims up more than expected

The number of new claims for U.S. unemployment benefits jumped much more than expected last week. The 354,000 claims were up by 10,000, exceeding the 1,000 increase predicted by economists. The four-week running average is now 347,250, up by 6,750.
