Connecticut junk-food ban puts spotlight on vending machines

Nutrition proponents were happy when the Connecticut Legislature recently passed a far-reaching ban on school sales of soft drinks and candy, but some school officials, particularly food-service directors, fear the new bill will deprive them of critical revenue. Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell says she's not keen on the bill, but if she doesn't sign it, she'll be in the no-win position of explaining to voters why she doesn't support children's nutrition.
