Oakland Cathedral breaks ground

The Oakland, Calif., $131 million Cathedral of Christ the Light includes a 1,500 seat sanctuary, parish hall, library and public cafe, all enclosed by roof vaults in a Vesica Pisces shape intended to symbolize God's descent to Earth. Architect Craig Hartman's design for the 100,000-square-foot construction will be aided by advanced technology and his plan is "really all about making space that is somehow emotive," Hartman said.
