Congestion prompts Pa. to mull alternatives to mountain tunnels

Pennsylvania officials are considering rerouting the Allegheny Mountain Tunnels on the Pennsylvania Turnpike through a notch carved in the mountain as they attempt to prepare for a sharp increase in traffic congestion. They are also considering replacing or rehabilitating the tunnels. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission plans to release proposals in a few weeks.
