Rhode Island children are lacking mental-health services, report finds

One in 10 Rhode Island children has a diagnosable mental disorder that is significant enough to interfere with their ability to function at school, home or within the community, a recent report indicates, but four out of five children do not receive needed treatment. Some community-based groups are aiming to help at-risk children with regular after-school programs, but the report suggests expanded access to preventative programs and mandated health insurance coverage are needed to help children with mental- and behavioral-health needs.
