Storm surge needs boost construction, economy in New Orleans

To cope with the gargantuan task of supplying concrete to complete the construction of the New Orleans storm surge barriers in time for hurricane season, Carlo Ditta rented trucks from other states and built two ready-mix plants to supply concrete 24 hours a day. The $14.6 billion project undertaken by the Army Corps of Engineers has generated 58,000 jobs. Ken Naquin, president of the Louisiana Associated General Contractors, touted the project as "a godsend" and a "tremendous boost for contractors."
