Study: Soil contamination from Fukushima reaches Chernobyl levels

The contaminated soil surrounding the damaged Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan matches the radiation level still present from the 1986 Chernobyl disaster in the former Soviet Union, according to a research report. Radiation from the plant has extended over 230 square miles, the report said. It said techniques exist to clean the contaminated soil, including planting crops to absorb radioactive materials.
