Scientists test ways to keep troops performing despite lack of sleep

Scientists and military researchers around the world are looking at ways to keep troops awake and performing past the boundaries of typical endurance when sleep is lacking. The U.S., Canada, Taiwan and South Korea are among the countries that have tested the use of modafinil, a drug that allows service members to function at normal levels without sleep, and in some cases deployed personnel under the influence of the drug.
