Upgrading bridges and roads in the U.S. provides an opportunity to create more durable structures using next-generation materials and techniques. Advances in materials such as corrosion-resistant reinforcement in concrete could produce bridges that last twice as long as those built in the past. Increased investment in next-gen materials also presents a financial opportunity as the demand for advanced materials grows, especially in the developing world.
