D.C. mayor rejects city council's school board plan

Last Friday, D.C. Mayor Anthony A. Williams vetoed a D.C. Council bill that would have kept the current mix of five elected and four mayorally-appointed school board members until 2006, when the board would have become an all-elected body. Williams is seeking control of the school system to facilitate reform and improve lines of accountability.
