California governor unveils plan to double math, science teachers

To boost teacher quality and prepare students for high-tech jobs of the future, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger yesterday announced a new program to more than double the state public university system's turnout of newly credentialed math and science teachers by 2010. The "California Teach" program would provide paid internships, put students in the classroom starting their freshman year and allow them to earn a bachelor's degree and prepare for board certification in four years.
