Air France plane with 228 people disappears over Atlantic

Paris Charles de Gaulle airport said contact with an Air France flight from Rio de Janeiro has been lost. The plane is carrying at least 228 people. Brazil's air force has initiated a search-and-rescue mission. Air France CEO Pierre-Henri Gourgeon confirmed that the plane sent an automatic message signaling an electric circuit failure as it hit turbulence early in its 11-hour flight . "I can say without doubt that this is a catastrophe," he said, adding "the entire Air France company and its staff are very moved and affected by this."
