AMD delivers Istanbul 5 months ahead of schedule

Chip maker AMD has introduced Istanbul, the latest model in its Opteron family of server processors, which is intended to take on rival Intel. The chip, which is capable of 34% more computing power than AMD's current quad-core models, is designed for use in a wide range of high- and low-end servers.
