Asian shares advance on optimism about economy

Shares across the Asia-Pacific region gained today, led by commodity-related stocks. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 was up 1.6%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index jumped 4% and China's Shanghai Composite climbed 3.4%. South Korea's Kospi Composite added 1.4%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 advanced 2% and Taiwan's Taiex closed up 0.9%. Markets in New Zealand were closed.
