California forests can offset carbon emissions

Nonprofit foundations in California have developed a new green business plan: plant forests and sell the carbon offsets. "Forests can be managed like a long-term carbon bank," said Laurie Wayburn, president of the Pacific Forest Trust. Forests absorb carbon emissions in the atmosphere, but the timber industry has been reluctant to embrace the idea, finding the legalities and standards difficult.
