Researchers are turning to nano-sized particles of silver to help prevent blood clots and the strokes and heart attacks they can cause. The scientists say the particles prevent blood platelets from clinging together by inhibiting the ability of the platelets' surface proteins to bind cells into aggregates, similar to the way that adding sand to adhesive tape reduces its ability to stick.
