Group provides guidelines to lessen radiation exposure from MPI

The American Society of Nuclear Cardiology has recommended several measures that could help reduce patients' exposure to radiation from myocardial perfusion imaging procedures. The recommendations include ensuring the appropriateness and necessity of an MPI test before implementation and finding a way to get diagnostic accuracy with the use of the lowest radiation dose possible. If the guidelines are practiced, radiation exposure from MPI could be reduced in half of tests by 2014, the group said.
