Hawaii's top veterinarian cautions against foot-and-mouth disease

Hawaii's state veterinarian has issued a warning for travelers about the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Japan. "Because we get a lot of visitors from Japan, there is always a potential for movement by visitors to other locations because it is highly contagious," the veterinarian said. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has issued a temporary ban on pork and beef products from Japan.
